Music Tidbits, Love Song(s) (Part 8)

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! This is the last instalment of this 7-part series. For today, my blog will be featuring 4 songs, or rather the same song that is replied, then translated and then reinvented. Very complicated right? Let me explain further ba.

A few years back, a Japanese artiste called Soulja composed the hit song ‘ここにいるよ’ (Koko ni iru yo)(I’m right here) that got everyone interested. His song is like the Japanese Version of ‘Beautiful Girls’, in which there is also a reply song after the first (called そばにいるね)(Soba ni iru ne)(I’m by your side). The song is about how two lovers, separated by distance, feel about each other.

Then, just recently last December, the Chinese pop group, 大嘴巴 (a.k.a. the Chinese version of the Black Eyed Peas), released their 2^nd album with the hit single ’永远在身边’ which is really the translated version of Soulja’s. This adaptation may not come as a surprise as the female vocal, Aisa is a Japanese.

Coincidently, the 4^th version came shortly this month in the form of Fish Leong’s (梁静茹) love song ‘如果沒有’ in her 12^th album. This song uses part of Soulja’s tune and completely different lyrics, and thus can be said to be reinvented.

Present, Post CNY 06 Outing 310109

The main perk of this outing was like what the advertiser (a.k.a. Yinghui 06) said—with angpow, got money, can eat better. With most of us working, I guess there’s no need to worry about money ba. Anyway, missed out some of the action as I had something on and arrived later. But it was okay, coz they just started eating when I came and I need not walk from Novena MRT Station (the meeting point) to Zhen Fa (my bus stopped at the entrance of Zhen Fa).

And yea, you guessed it, we dined at Zhen Fa Live Seafood Restaurant. The main attraction? Yea, you are right again—it’s the live seafood. Luckily, I was less late than Jasmine, or I would have no place to sit. Oh ya, great to see Zen Hong looking the same expect for the hair and skin colour.

The coolest part is that AJCians like to patronise Zhen Fa, at least for that day it was. We were the early birds. Then Renhui and friends came, then Jonathan and friends came, then Gilbert and friends came. Seriously, we didn’t arrange to meet at all. It was like school prom almost, only that you need to get food yourself and you can wear whatever you please.

Didn’t do much after that. Just walked around Velocity. I guess everyone’s kinda tired and cash-strapped by now. Took group photos and went our separate ways.

Music Tidbits, Love Song(s) (Part 7)

After 6 installments, it's time to do a 'personal favourites' one. I will be sharing 3 songs that appear in different phases of my life.

First up is 'Only Love' by Trademark, the song that stuck to me in my primary school days. I remembered my class did a play on teachers' day on 'Romeo and Juliet' (siao, how can 11-year-old kids do such a sophisicated play, of course is helped by teachers. and it's for teachers' day, diao). I was supposed to be a prayer or something when the lead people died and then the song will play (that's why it got into my head). And you know what, we have to do another play the following year and the class chose the same song again (luckily it was cancelled).

On to my secondary school days, I guess the most popular song was 不得不愛 by Wilber Pan and 弦子. That was a time when MP3 phones were the coolest thing in town and people started blasting their loudspeakers. More often than always, this was the song they blasted. I betcha a lot of people don't know who the female singer was back then. So I'm telling you again she's 弦子.

Then in my JC days, the hit song to be blasted was actually 精舞門 by Show Luo. But then it's not a love song, so it fails to get into my playlist. But that's ok, coz his other song 敗給你 with Elva Hsiao makes it in. Why this song? Because I like that's why.

Past, Chapter 3: The 5-dollar Crush (Part 10)

Results of the JAE posting came about a week later. I got into AJC, and I wondered if she was too. Turned out she was. Woohoo, I really need to cherish this chance now that I’m given 2 more years to improve on our relationship. This is a sign that I should proceed further. The Chinese say in order to succeed, you need the right time, right place and the right person. I’ve got time and the place and I believe I got the right person. The problem is whether the situation is also the same on the other side.

I’m pretty confused how to get started in the first place. I had to ask someone who had more experience about this than me. And there was Kai Wei looking like a really fortunate person, talking about how he got started with Renhui. Eventually, it was Vale who asked me if there was someone I like when I was online. Was I that obvious about it? Perhaps it was my emo messages on MSN that sparked his curiosity.

Well, if he wanted to know so badly, why should I not tell him? He was the perfect person to tell for many reasons. For one, he did not know who she is yet, and two, I believed he could help (Of course there are more hidden ones). What did he tell me? That’s another story.
